Pasta and pedicures: New business thrives in Birmingham
Zharko Palushaj has plenty of experience when it comes to running a fine Italian restaurant.
His wife, Dalis Chan Palushaj, knows all about mani-pedis.
Bingo. A business is born.
La Strada Dolci e Caffé and Adore Nails & Spa share 5,000 square feet of subdivided space inside the Merrillwood Building in downtown Birmingham. The two businesses opened late last year and are creating a positive vibe in the city’s central business district.
“It’s certainly a nice addition to Merrill Street,” said John Heiney, executive director of the Birmingham Shopping District. “Everyone I’ve talked to loves the atmosphere.”
Not only is the venture a marriage of cannoli and pedicures, it’s also a story of two entrepreneurs from different countries who came to the U.S. to chase after the American Dream.
